MUNICH SETS NAKED ZONES

Germany: Munich has given the green light to naked sunbathing in public with the designation of six Urban Naked Zones.

Sunbathers are now officially welcome to go naked provided they restrict themselves to six designated areas across the city. While the parkland locations of these areas give them a degree of seclusion, none of them are fenced off or hidden away. One spot is barely ten minutes from Munich's main square, located along a stream to which tourists regularly flock.

The areas are: Feldmonchinger See, Schwabinger Bucht, Eisbach, Mittlere-Isar-Straße, Brudermuhlbrucke and Flaucher.

In officially allowing nude sunbathing in these six places however, Munich is in many ways only acknowledging a practice that has gone on for years. It has long been a common practice (and will continue to be so) to see naked sunbathers in the city's Englischer Garten and in spots along the meandering, island-filled Isar River.
